About Us
Peninsula Clean Energy is a joint powers authority formed by the County of San Mateo and each of its 20 cities to offer greener electricity to its residents and businesses to meet local climate action goals. PCE is governed by a Board of Directors, which is comprised of a representative from the governing body of each member community.
 
The principal purpose of PCE is to implement a Community Choice Energy (CCE) program for its member communities. PCE purchases electricity from clean generation sources (such as solar, wind and hydropower) on behalf of customers in its service area.  Electricity is still delivered over the existing transmission system, which will continue to be owned and operated by the current electric utility. Implementing a CCE program helps achieve local community climate actions goals. PCE serves approximately 285,000 accounts as of June 2017. 
 
The Position
Under general supervision of the Director of Marketing and Public Affairs, the Creative Content Designer will contribute to the strategy developed by the Marketing team and create Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) marketing and branding content including graphic design and layout for print collateral, advertisements, newsletters, social media, and PCE's website, and other duties as assigned.

Hours and Pay
This is a part-time contracted position.  PCE will pay a monthly retainer based on a workload of 12 hours per week, with an hourly rate of $50 - $60/ hour (depending on experience) for additional work performed beyond the retainer. PCE is based in Redwood City, California, but is open to negotiating telecommuting arrangements for this position.

 Examples Of Duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Illustrative Only)
The duties and responsibilities will vary over time, and may include:
  • Supports Director of Marketing and Public Affairs in keeping visual collateral and assets on brand
  • Creates marketing materials to support PCE programs and services including, but not limited to, ECO100, ECOplus, solar net metering, and new customer programs
  • Creates communications materials, as needed, to support PCE's Regulatory and Procurement teams
  • Identifies trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements as needed
  • Attends and directs PCE photo shoots as needed
  • Contributes to communications and advertising plans
  • As assigned, assists with the implementation of PCE's Marketing Plan
 
Web Work
  • May create and design new webpages
  • May write and edit web content
 
Digital & Print Collateral
  • Develops layout and artwork for print and digital collateral, including signs, flyers, brochures, presentations, reports, social media graphics, mailers, ads, and infographics
  • Plans, illustrates, and presents graphic concepts
  • Prepares and finalizes finished copy and art
  • Manages print and swag vendor(s)
  • Updates content of existing materials as needed
  • Presents ideas for swag items and identifies vendors
  • May draft written content for marketing collateral and presentations

 Qualifications:

Education/Experience

Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Communications, or a related field and four years of professional design experience and art direction. Ad experience is preferred. Renewable energy and utility industry knowledge is desirable.

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • HTML coding, WordPress programming, web design, and content management
  • Photography procedures
  • Printing processes and specifications
  • PCE electric service options and customer programs
  • The mission and goals of PCE

Ability to
  • Work closely with Marketing staff to identify appropriate messaging for specific segments
  • Take direction and complete designs that match the Director of Marketing's visions
  • Understand the brand and articulate the brand message through appropriate design solutions
  • Create exceptional artistic and creative graphic design materials
  • Communicate effectively in writing and in oral conversation
  • Organize work with attention to detail
  • Work independently as well as work as part of a wide and varied team
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons encountered during the performance of duties
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and balance multiple deadlines
