The Human Services Agency of the County of San Mateo is seeking
highly-qualified candidates for the position of
DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES.

Anyone may apply. Current San Mateo County and San Mateo County Superior Court employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, SEIU or AFSCME represented extra-help/term position prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.

  1. Describe your experience providing direct child welfare services, administering child welfare programs and building strong, effective teams of services providers.
  2. Describe your executive management experience in collaborating with community partners and stakeholders to meet the goal(s) of your organization.
  3. Describe your knowledge of Child Welfare funding sources and your experience analyzing financial data, developing fiscal projections, preparing reports and recommendations for management on financial issues and explaining budget or financial information to program managers or other program staff.

Examination Process: The examination process will consist of the steps detailed below. Because of this examination process, not all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are guaranteed advancement through the examination process.
  • Initial review of application materials.  At this step applicants submitting incomplete applications, lacking relevant qualifications, and/or not following instructions will be disqualified.
  • Application Screening. The application and supplemental responses for applicants who pass the initial review will be evaluated by a panel of subject matter experts. All applicants passing this step will be invited to complete the Management Test Battery.
  • Panel Interview. At this step, applicants will be invited to a Civil Service interview, which may include the evaluation of a written and/or performance exercise given immediately preceding the interview. Applicants passing this stage will be placed on an eligible-for-hiring list.
