The San Mateo County Health System is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Psychiatric Social Worker/Marriage & Family Therapist I/II-Correctional Health. PSW/MFTs, under general supervision, provide specialized psychiatric casework counseling and therapy services to either children and adolescents or seriously mentally ill adults in community or inpatient settings; and supervise graduate interns.
There are currently two vacancies in Correctional Health Services and work in the Maguire Correctional Facility and the Maple Street Correctional Center, both located in Redwood City.
Regular Position; Evening Shift (currently Monday - Thursday 2 p.m. - 10 p.m.; every other week Friday or Saturday 4 p.m. - 12 a.m.) with a pay differential. Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
This PSW/MFT position works in the Maguire Correctional Facility and the Women's Correctional Center, and provides clinical mental health services to inmates with mental illness or co-occurring disorders of mental illness and chemical dependency; provide case management services; provide discharge planning; interviews inmate patients to assess mental health needs and formulates treatment plans; exercise good judgment and tact when interacting with inmate patients and other service providers; relate and communicate effectively with inmate patients and others from the diverse multi-cultural community served; function as a team member in a multi-disciplinary work setting; work independently and as a team member; and collaborate with Sheriff's Office staff to manage inmate patients' daily activities. Will work with various professionals involved with the court system, including probation officers, attorneys, case managers and other treatment providers, and develop treatment plans for seriously mentally ill inmates. Some positions require weekend and evening hours.
Unclassified Position: Day Shift (Monday – Friday)
This PSW/MFT position works in the Maguire Correctional Facility and the Women's Correctional Center, and provides clinical mental health services to inmates with serious mental illness. The person in this position with work closely with community behavioral health services, probation and the courts to assess inmates and assist with placement and wrap around services in the community. This position requires the ability to assess mental health needs and formulate treatment plans; exercise good judgment and tact when interacting with inmate patients and other service providers; relate and communicate effectively with inmate patients and others from the diverse multi-cultural community served; function as a team member in a multi-disciplinary work setting; work independently and as a team member; and collaborate with Sheriff's Office staff to manage inmate patients' daily activities. Will work with various professionals involved with the court system, including probation officers, attorneys, case managers and other treatment providers, and develop treatment plans for seriously mentally ill inmates.The ideal candidates will have:
PSW/MFT I: $5,599 - $6,999/month
PSW/MFT II: $6,280 - $7,850/month

PSW I - current California registration as a Clinical Social Worker Associate (ASW). MFT I - current California Registration as a Marriage and Family Therapist intern (IMF). Individuals hired in these classifications must become licensed within three years from the date of employment as a Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist by the State of California.
PSW-II - current California license as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). MFT II - current California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
Security Clearance: This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a security clearance as a condition of employment.
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is a Master's degree in Social Work, Social Welfare or a closely related field.
Knowledge of: Current philosophy, principles, and practices for services to clients with emotional disturbance or serious mental illness; individual, group and family psychodynamics as they relate to children or adults; psychological diagnostic methods and terminology; personality development from infancy through adulthood; human and health services systems in the County including private agencies and other community resources.
Skill/Ability to: Provide treatment to children, adolescents or adults with various mental health disabilities ranging from emotional disturbance or serious mental illness to dysfunctional behavior patterns, including victims of sexual or physical abuse; set realistic treatment goals and facilitate their attainment; evaluate the degree of mental disability or emotional distress of patients/clients; provide consultation and technical assistance to agencies, schools and other organizations; work collectively within a multi-disciplinary team; and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
