San Mateo County Libraries is seeking 50 qualified students for the position of Youth Learning and Outreach Intern

Youth Learning and Outreach Interns will be a high school or college student passionate about engaging children, families and teens in library summer learning programs, experiences and the Summer Learning Challenge.

Location: Interns will be assigned to a regional team and work with a lead intern. Assigned regions in San Mateo County include north, south, central and the coast. Once assigned, a region intern will generally report to one location per day, which will vary depending on assigned program facilitation within public libraries or outreach needs in the assigned region.

Schedule: This internship has a flexible and non-regular schedule. The intern will work 20 hours per week (Monday-Sunday). The hours will vary and may include evenings. Shifts will generally last 2-4 hours. The 10 week internship will start in June.

Salary: $16 hourly


 Examples Of Duties:

After training, interns will either lead and facilitate hands on learning experiences in library locations throughout San Mateo County or will conduct meaningful and culturally sensitive outreach in the community to engage participants in summer learning with the library and break down any barriers to accessing enriching summer learning experiences. Programs already planned for this summer include 3D Printing, enrichment classes, a concert series, special performers, Storytimes, and Paws for Tales.


 Qualifications:

Education: Enrolled in high school or college.

Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin/Cantonese, Tagalog, or Farsi is preferred.
