San Mateo County Parks Department
is seeking individuals to assist Park Rangers with seasonal facility maintenance, including cleaning restrooms and collecting garbage; resource management; visitor services; gatehouse duties; and trail maintenance. The ideal candidate will have the ability to learn new skills, the ability to follow directions, and a strong commitment to provide exemplary customer service to park visitors.

Along with other park locations, there is an immediate opening for a Park Aide at the Coyote Point Marina. In addition to performing regular park maintenance, the Park Aide post at Coyote Point Marina is distinct from other Park Aide posts:

  • Working on and around docks and boats.
  • Training in rescue boat operations as deckhand.
  • Interaction with a community of long-term Coyote Point Marina tenants (boat owners).
  • The ideal candidate will be familiar with the use of hand tools, power tools and gardening equipment.
    • possess an interest in boating or sailing.
    • be outgoing, customer oriented.
    • have a desire to provide exceptional customer service to our tenants.

This position requires driving to different park locations and handling power-driven tools and machines. Candidates selected for this position must have a valid California driver license or equivalent and must be at least 18 years of age at the date of hire due to Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) restrictions.

The salary range is $15.00 - $18.75 per hour.  Extra-help positions offer temporary employment for up to 1040 hours which is equivalent to about six months full-time, however, employment might end sooner depending on the needs of the hiring department. Extra-help positions are paid on an hourly rate basis and provide some benefits. Extra-help workers are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment.


Knowledge of: Policies, procedures and safety regulations related to the park location to which assigned; safety hazards and equipment related to park and marina environments; driving and operating automobiles, light trucks, safety equipment and other motorized equipment safely; communicating effectively orally and in writing; landscaping and ground maintenance practices including pruning, lawn and plant care.

Skill/Ability to: Maintain cleanliness of park and marina facilities; use hand, electric and pneumatic power tools; perform light construction, repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment; perform clerical tasks including keeping accurate records, making simple arithmetic calculations, handling cash, and filing; follow oral and written instructions including safety rules, procedures and practices; work courteously and effectively with the public, co-workers, and volunteers; operate motor vehicles and other equipment; stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time; lift items weighing up to 60 pounds.
